"And I Am A (Sometime*) Cowboys Fan!"

(December 5, 2019)

hearing dallas break

its teeth ‘gainst ‘midway maullers’

world regains order!

*(Sometimes seemingly inept Dallas Cowboys ran up to a much-maligned Chicago Bears Thursday night…and, truth be told both teams- – and their whole division mired in mediocrity – are not much about which to gaze when it comes to “The Standings.” With the loss, America’s Team – Hah! – still leads the pack. Yeah, ’cause ol’e Roger The Dodger erased years of crud off my Bal’more Colts and they they had the nerve to leave for FillthyNapolis and tried to foist a broke-wing blackbird on me…but, hey, whatcanisay? I also love them green people Celtics and Them Insufferable Yankees…my sports teams at that level are based on many factors: even wore my Celtics championships shirt to The Bronx Bombers’ old stadium and my NYY letterman’s coat to The Garden…both places no longer even allows the ghosts of Bob and Red and Reggie and Casey…go figger: still my teams!)

"Why Always Is It?"

(December 5, 2019)

Why always is it

Army-Navy, not reverse?

Each has t’other!*

*(The U.S. Navy owns its own army, complete with air force, artillery, tanks and suchlike; The U.S. Army owns – and had since George did an amphibious op across The Deleware – navy and it, too, not only has its own albeit smaller air force but was the daddy of the present such fly-command: so riddlemethis football fan: why does it always say Army-Navy? And don’t go back to that seniority gag. Iffin it weren’t for The Nabby, the Harmy would have starved long before Valley Forge.)

"Found Out What's Missing (When Began 'Old Boys Muster' Group) – Tanka 2662

(December 6, 2019)

‘Nam Memorial

missing ‘The Zoomies’ to do

justice – too much land…

F-Fours, One-Oh-Fours: of course

Cobras and ‘The BUFFs’ and more!*

“(Not enough available space for a real complete memorial…someone or somemillion buy a patch of mid-country dirt and add all the other aviation assets of iconic – to me and some few others no doubt – such as Intruders, Sky Raiders, Chinooks (though the term S*&tHooks obtains, SeaKnights and ‘Stallions and JollyGreens and of course LOACH’S and Broncos…but what abut the Squids? ‘Specially the brownwater boys and their snake eater friends? See what I mean: D.C. just too small(minded, ahem) and we got a war to celebrate, my chums…and the toys the next batch of ‘Merican Heroes have had for their box…and now we got The Gulls to see about. If they cut the mustard – and my surprise to me is I suspect an American Girl will do just fine at war given the time to train up her frame for full on gruntishness and not at the expense of curricula…remember when Women Marines got to do their pushups from the knees and not their toes? Them Days Is Done. And, lest you not know the K(nown)D(istance) top rifle range score belongs to the Distaff Set! Wonder if their raffles was as crappy as ours back in 19 and 67? But back to the screed. Swift Boats, Gun Boats…and Red China hacking about the shallow rich sea – tungsten, molybedneum (hellwithit: spelll it yourself!) oil, uraneum and oh so much more from Sulu Sea off Phils to IndoFreakin’Neasia we ain’t gots a BrownWaterNavy worth a fig to fight off the Chines, or at least compel a quiet to their inquisitiveness…and thass why I propose more regional military garden-parks scatttered throughout the land…each with some scaled-down – or not! – Confidence Course obstacles for pre- and teen schoolkids to see and test themselves. Not a damn thing wrong with acknowledging – and, yes, improving – the skills and appreciation for warriors which has kept this country near or at the top ‘o the heap. Here’s to the view from Heap’s Top.,. and to get, and stay, there it takes a village – at last a Hillary worth repeating!)

"Will Add To 'The Workout' List"*

(December 6, 2019)

found out twelve-speed bike

works big leg-muscles harder

than the same way-walk!

*(Oh, my aches after a mere mile-+ ride to the library…but it took just 10 minutes – what with stopping to cross four-lane streets by walking, and obeying all those pesky stop signs and using hand signals I still remember from elementary school safety classes…which I am sure puzzle the motorized with whom I share the small roads…but one or two – one a young mother with a bike rack on back of her SUV – smiled and waved and mouthed “thanks.” This afternoon a good workover with WD-40 and overall tightening and loosenings…walk downtown tomorrow so as not the shock the natives too very much…besides, it’s a market day and mayhap I’ll find a tumeric rhizome to adopt.”

"How Does My Garden G(l)(r)ow!*"

(December 6, 2019)

I got heirloom kale,

red ghost peppers, parsley, more

to baby through clime*

*(The Heirloom Kale not-so-much: the collars already are asking it to come outside to play.Other, more cold-sensitive, in their containers are grouped already for ease-of-covering and I soon shall trek to Sav-A-Lot and buy bulk brown paper grocery sacks like we used to tote home to mom decades ago…two bags will take a containered veg to 25 degrees Fahrenheit and a top-layer of newspaper and one or two courses below of more newspaper sections will insulate a hard freeze…not to mention the useful bedspreads, sheets, quilts, blankets and the occasional impressed fuzzy bathroom throws. I will use the season to repot gingers and galangals and lemon grasses – remind: save some LG for Anita down the street a ways – and repot hatch new mexican pepper seedlings, moe collards, yellow and red pear tomatoes and grape tomatoes which “throw” true despite what their Red Chinese masters claim, some romas and big shouldered beefsteaks, and of course time to seed for cukes, lettuces, and early Spring crops…but FIRST: time to dig up the volunteer sweet potatoes, rework green manure into that plot and get it ready for an early spring planting of sweet, red and white onions, not to mention a few rows of bunching green onions. Time to begin the process of making rosemary cuttings and breaking down and buying sage, thyme (both German and Lemon) and cilantro. I have plenty of seeds from leftovers or fallen-unders. Oh, yes, see about some tumeric rhizomes. Who said Winter is a slow time for farmers. I’m exhausted just considering what’s on tap…and speaking of such (tap, that is, must be time to exercise an underused elbow, neh?)

*(Did not notice in the title I had left a major – or possibly a lieutenant colonel – conundrum exist. The supposed play was: (How Does Your Garden Glow/How Does Your Garden Grow) a play on words hidden inside a pair of parentheses and I had applied but one and further confused the issue by misclarification…whatever that means. Sin Loi, my friends. I make no promise to reform. Just go about picking up self-hurled brickbats and washing away the chagrin with a groan-ing giggle.)
