“Highly Annoyed, We Two” Tanka 427

Tree-rat annoyed, waves

its bushy tail in rebuke

but stays close to perch!

Fearing me, a deadly foe:

and, you know, he’s right!*

*(I want to know right now, which of you Jokers told that squirrel I’m all bluff!)

“Highly Annoyed We Two*”

Tree-rat annoyed, waves

his bushy tail in rebuke

but stays close to perch!

*(I’m highly annoyed, too!  Blessed by The Deity but not by me, grey squirrel who just dumped my nascent cutting of rosemary out of its potting mix – right before my ‘credulous eyes! – has the temerity to tail-laugh at me because it knows I am terrible with a throwing stick or chunk of tree limb – it knows not the meaning of a cocked thumb and straight forefinger, but with a middle school so near even a Saturday “accidental discharge” is unthinkable. Dammit!)

“A Weekend Menu” Tanka 426

Dishes done – chew book:

then, arroz con pollo y frijoles negras?

A big salad tomorrow!

Baked maple syrup apples

Sunday with popcorn and “tea*!”

*(Red hibiscus tea – recipe stolen from Pati Jinich of Pati’s Mexican Table on PBS: there may be a hint of white rum added as I get back from Gopherus Polyphemus – gopher tortoise – a crucial and species of special concern hereabouts – location and relocation project prior to “Church” Sunday evening with the gospel lesson delivered by Pastor Tom Brady or perhaps the sermon said by that upstart outta Hot-Lanta whom the experts say hails a fine Mary for a Falcon.  We shall see.)

*(leftover: cold.  Add more ground black pepper, red wine vinegar and olive oil to the combined two stews.  Had not leftover Cuban loaf, so cut a thick slab of whole-wheat and rye, added S&P and baptized in more olive oil. Cut-in-quarters fresh-picked last-of-season Orlando Tangelo with a hint of salt for dessert. Tomorrow Maple Syrup-baked Granny Smiths their cores replaced with butter, cinnamon and nutmeg – one for dessert and two to cause salivatory excesses on Sunday.)
